About Montreal

The City of Montreal has an interesting hybrid character and style, with a North American-style downtown and trendy European neighbourhoods that have each developed with their own unique personalities. The formerly working class Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood has developed in its own right, and the Latin Quarter has been a popular meeting place for students since the 18th century. The centrally located Jean-Talon market features hundreds of artisans and vendors each summer, and Old Montreal retains a distinctive old-world flavour that appeals to residents and tourists alike. The city is dotted with many churches, including the Notre-Dame Basilica and St. Joseph’s Oratory.
