Dr. Oleg Stukalov co-founded his first company in a home security area while in his final year of undergraduate studies in Engineering Physics. The company got successful very quickly but nevertheless collapsed. Oleg than returned to academia to do research in organic electronics and nanoscale imaging using scanning probe microscopes, and received PhD in Applied Physics in 2003. Shortly after Oleg received the prestigious NATO Science Fellowship award and started his post-doc appointment in Canada. His research in the area of bio-nanotechnology resulted in a serendipitous lab discovery, which led to the foundation of a spin-off company, Mirexus Biotechnologies Inc. in 2008. Oleg served as a Chief Executive Officer of Mirexus Biotechnologies until he passed company leadership to new management in 2011. From 2011 to January 2018, Oleg worked at Wilfrid Laurier University where he managed research partnerships with industry and research commercialization activities (patenting, licensing, and startup creation). He currently works as Business Development Manager at the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Waterloo.
